The Renaissance Mom, LLC is a company focused on bringing resources, tools and success strategies to working moms – particularly entrepreneurial-minded mothers. Mom entrepreneurs aren’t just sitting around in their peejay’s clacking away on a keyboard trying to earn a few bucks to pay the rent, they’re just as likely to be corporate executives, CEOs and high-profile women transitioning from a brick-and-mortar ”j.o.b.” into a career that serves the world in a way that brings back the passion in their work life.

That’s no small task, and when you add children and family demands to the mix, there’s simply not enough quality resources in society to support these hard working women. If you’re a single mother, or a parent to special needs children, the demands are even greater. The Renaissance Mom is a woman that doesn’t have to apologize for being a mom and having a career or owning a business.

Founded in 2010, The Renaissance Mom is on a mission to help 10,000 working mothers – especially mom entrepreneurs – bring their own definition of balance and harmony into their lives. Founder Lisa Robbin Young explains it thus:

“When I was pregnant with my first child, my expectation was that I would have the full support of the man I loved. Within a year of my son’s birth, I was a single mom. My initial mindset was ‘I didn’t sign up for this!’ I struggled with the fear, anger and resentment of what it meant to be a working mom with a toddler in tow.

“That wasn’t my dream. I was a reluctant mom, at best. And I begged for parenting help. I wanted to be a good mom, and didn’t have the skills, knowledge or resources to ‘fix everything’ in my life.

“After my son started school, he was officially diagnosed with ADHD and an emotional impairment. My logical conclusion at the time was that I was a horrible parent and couldn’t do anything right. Of course it was faulty logic, but I had no benchmark to guide me and no support system to correct my thinking. Day after day the school would call me to pick up my misbehaving child. I chose to leave the ’9 to 5′ scene so I could create a life for my child, repair the damage I felt I had done, and still be able to make ends meet.”

Fast forward seven years. After growing a successful business from home, and juggling the demands of a special needs child, Lisa began to hear the stories of other moms that were struggling with this ‘dirty little secret,’ also.

“My coaching clients would share their fears about being successful, navigating motherhood and owning a business. It struck me that I wasn’t alone in this battle. I remembered what Lily Tomlin had said: ‘Somebody should do something about that. Then I realized I am somebody.’ I knew the mission God had put before me.”

There are Renaissance Moms all around us. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the US alone, nearly 70% of married women with children under 18 are actively participating in the workforce. Only about 50% of married women without children are working. These numbers don’t reflect The Renaissance Moms who are actively working and parenting their grandchildren – a growing trend in the US.

According to 2009 reports, nearly 30% of working mothers are self-employed with children under the age of 6. The need to help these women navigate the rough waters of building a business successfully is greater now more than ever. Five percent of all sales from The Renaissance Mom are donated to charities.
