In my coaching business, I see it all the time.
Clients come to me, wanting to improve their business, see success in some area of their life, and there’s something in the way.
They’re hitting a wall.
We start by looking at fears and self-imposed obstructions that need to be cleared from the path. Often, though, there’s something else at play that is literally tearing away at the remaining shreds of success in their business.
… it’s their faith.
I’m not thumping a Bible here. I’m not necessarily talking about a spiritual or religious faith – although that can be a part of it.
I’m talking about the belief (or lack thereof) that they have in themselves.
Oh, they talk a good game:
“I really want to be successful! I’m working so many hours trying to get this thing off the ground. And I’m working hard, too! I’m willing to do just about anything to make this work!”
How about getting out of your own way?
“Huh? What do you mean?”
You can stay incredibly busy doing all the wrong things in your business, and all you’ll be doing is spinning your wheels deeper into the mud.
The key to success is understanding your value – knowing what you’re worth, and not being afraid to ask for it.
THIS, my friends, is usually the biggest obstacle to overcome. You must believe, in your gut, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are worth every penny you ask of your clients.
For new entrepreneurs, I usually start with a “dollars for hours” equation. I ask them if they believe they are worth $500 an hour.
I’m often met with hard swallows and awkward laughter.
When I ask them where they do feel comfortable, it’s generally in the $25-100 an hour window.
“Well, if you don’t believe you’re worth it, how can you expect anyone else to believe it?”
Then the lightbulbs start coming on. I love that moment.
As entrepreneurs, we undervalue ourselves in myriad ways. Ultimately, we are only limited by our own belief of our value in the world.
And folks, $500 an hour is a MINIMUM value. Even if you’re not already making that kind of money, you never will if you don’t believe that you’re worth it.
Tony Robbins once said that “life will pay any price you ask of it.”
How much are you asking? Chances are good, if you’re honest with yourself, the answer is “not nearly enough”.

FYI: I’m in the planning stages for a live event this fall. This topic will be a BIG piece of the event. So many of our difficulties in business come from a lack of faith in our own abilities – and a fear of criticism. The more I talk with mom entrepreneurs, the more I’m convinced that overcoming this element ALONE would propel so many more of you to the heights you hope to achieve in your careers. Details are still pending, but if you’d like to get on the “advance notification” list, hop on over to www.TheRenaissanceMom.com/renaissancemomlive/ and sign up for details as they become available.
